What to do in Virginia Beach in December
Although the consistent warm weather and sunny days are seldom at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach, in December there are still plenty of things to do.
Start out your trip with something you ca not do any other time of year, drive your car down the boardwalk. The Holiday Lights Merry Mile has officially begun, and it runs through New Year’s Eve. Load up the family and head down to 2nd Street on Atlantic Ave for a twelve block long nautical display of lights along the oceanfront. You’ll see a fantasy of holiday lights along the path as you listen to Christmas music from your car radio. Admission is $4.00 Monday-Thursday and $5 Friday- Sunday and holidays. A Christmas Performance
If you are looking to catch an excellent Christmas performance, visit the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach. On December 9th at 7:30 pm a fantastic performance of The Star and The Sleigh: Two Sides of Christmas, presented by Hampton Roads oldest community choir, the Virginia Beach Chorale. Join the chorale as they show you why Christmas is one of the most treasured holidays. The Grande Market
Get some holiday shopping done at The Grande Market at La Promenade Shoppes at Hilltop. It’s a unique open-air market with local artists, clothing, gourmet foods, accessories, and more located at 1806 Laskin Rd Virginia Beach. This takes place December 10th from 10 am to 2 pm. Afterwards, stop in for a warm latte and pastry at Java Surf Café & Espresso Bar.
Music In The Air
Later this month, on December 21st, the well-known Vienna Boys Choir will be performing at the Sandler Center for the Virginia Arts Festival. The choir consists of talented boys from all over the world including Austria, Cambodia, China, France, Iceland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and the Philippines. Come and enjoy hearing some of the best-loved holiday music that will surely bring the spirit of Christmas.
Last Night On The Town
Wrap up the end of the year with “Last Night on the Town” in Town Center. It is an all-day, family event on New Year’s Eve beginning at 2 pm and ending at midnight. The fun starts at Pembroke Mall, where the kids can celebrate together during their own countdown celebration. You can dance the night away with some of Virginia Beach best local bands and toast to the year at midnight. Enjoy a spectacular laser light show as the big ball drops to ring in the new year. All of these activities and entertainment are free and open to the public.
