Fall is a beautiful time of year when the weather slightly changes, beach is less crowded and the Neptune Festival is in full swing.

Neptune Festival is a memorable event that has been popular at the Virginia Beach oceanfront for over 40 years.  It’s well attended by out of town guests and locals. It’s the oceanfront’s last big end of summer event that’s loaded with fun activities for everyone.

The 22nd Annual Fall Wine Festival is September 15th and 16th at Neptune’s Park on 31st and Atlantic Ave.  Bring your friends or meet new ones at the oceanfront and enjoy tasting some of the best wines from Virginia vineyards. Enjoy delicious food and live entertainment.  There will be a selection of over 70 wines and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase the bottle of wine of your choice.

Naval Air Station Oceana Air Show annual event is Saturday September 22nd and 23rd. Come out and watch the United States Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration team along with the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, the Snowbirds!  Along with watching the Blue Angels fly over the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll see some civilian and military performers like the Skytpers, Kent Pietsch, Bob Carlton and Tactical Demonstrations by the F-22 Raptor and the F/A-18F Super Hornet fly over the oceanfront.  Come witness the newest Flash Fire Jet Trucks jet powered Fire Truck, Aftershock. This air show is the perfect occasion to celebrate Naval Station Oceana 75th Anniversary.  Oceana is the East Coast Navy’s booming Master Jet Base and home to all Naval Aviation’s F-18 Hornets and Super Hornets. This is a free event for the entire family to enjoy with lots of food and vendors. Gates open at 8am and the flying takes off at 10am.

The Neptune Festival ends with a big bang with the boardwalk weekend events September 28-30 along 2nd-36th street at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. This is the 45th anniversary where thousands of tourists and locals enjoy it’s many contributions like concerts, vendors, and delicious food. Walk along the boardwalk and shop at over 250 artisan’s booths where they showcases their handmade work.  There is so much to keep you busy for the entire weekend like the Grand Parade, Volley tournament, Atlantic Regatta, youth art show and so much more.

Take a break from shopping and eating and look at the 22 amazing sand sculptures created by world-renowned international sculptors at one of the most exciting exhibits, the Sandsculpting Championship from 4th to 10th streets along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Enter Neptune’s Kingdom, Land of Sand, a huge tent as large as a football that protects 22 sculptures created by 12 solo and 10 doubles teams. The sculptures will be up for 10 days with lighting for evening hours. There’s a sculpting clinic for those feeling a little creative and would like to learn how to sand sculpt taught by master sculptor, John Gowdy. Enlist your friends, family or co-workers in this lifetime experience.  All materials are provided, no reservations needed, just arrive before class times to participate. Classes on Saturday September 29 on 8th Street: 9am to 11am Sandcastle Building 101 and 3pm to 5pm: The Art of Sculpting a Dolphin in Sand.
